On September 4, 2014 I was honored to be a presenter at the Institute for Mindfulness in South Africa conference, “Mindfulness Matters” in Stellenbosch, South Africa. My husband, neuroscientist Clifford Saron, gave a keynote address about his research on meditation, and we also presented our workshop, “Tuning Your Instrument; the Buddha, the Brain and Bach.” For three weeks prior to the conference we were taken by our South African hosts to visit many places in the country, including Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nieu Bethesda, and a safari in the Welgenvongen nature preserve. In this journal I’ve shared some thoughts about this unique and fascinating journey.
